Many parents assume 1-to-1 tutoring must be more effective. In practice, well-run small-group lessons often lead to stronger learning and engagement.
Firstly, please read the testimonials for the proof of those who have taken the leap and felt the gain. In small groups, students hear different interpretations, compare ideas, and learn to articulate their thinking clearly. This is especially valuable in English, where discussion and interpretation are central skills.
A small group also creates a helpful and encouraging sense of momentum and accountability. Students often stay more engaged and build confidence as they realise others are working through the same challenges towards the same goal.
The Year 10 and 11 IGCSE English class has a maximum of 7 students.
This size allows for lively discussion while still ensuring every student receives meaningful instructional time. Students benefit from hearing different perspectives while also receiving clear guidance on how to strengthen their own writing.
The CAT4 group class has a maximum of 4 students. This is smaller because these tests are specifically designed to categorise intelligence types and thinking styles so, more time is required to adapt thinking styles!
It’s common for students to feel reserved at first. However, I guarantee that my welcoming style will ease any student’s qualms about settling in. Please read the testimonials such as “Your lesson is the only lesson ever where my son felt comfortable and confident in the first 5 minutes” - and this, I guarantee in the first five minutes. The lessons are designed so that participation develops gradually rather than placing anyone under pressure.
Students can contribute in different ways, and early discussion often allows ideas to be shared without feeling exposed. As students begin receiving my direct, specific and positive feedback for their ideas, confidence tends to grow very quickly.
I also make a point of connecting individually with every student so they feel comfortable contributing.
Absolutely. Online learning works far better when I can read my students’ reactions to help me judge whether something was clear enough or requires an alternative explanation or example. Often, I can spot uncertainty immediately and clarify a point before confusion builds.
This also helps create a stronger teacher–student relationship and keeps lessons more focused and engaging for everyone involved.
